FOODS TO AVOID

A lot of people believe and insist that certain foods can cause acne. These include chocolate and other sweet foods. Others also believe that fatty and greasy foods can actually cause acne. This was based on a study that was released in the 15th century. The study, unfortunately, was flawed. Nevertheless, the myth persists and skin-conscious people avoid the yummiest foods like chocolate, French fries, potato chips and sweets. There is, however, no basis to say that these foods are direct causes of acne and that not eating them would exempt people from getting acne.

The truth is that food does play a role in skin care. In fact, food plays a very big role in the physical well-being of a person, so it’s certain that food can also affect the skin. This should not be taken to mean, however, that there is a tried and tested that diet that people can use to keep acne at bay. What has been shown through recent studies is that there are a variety of foods that could, if taken in significantly high amounts, could aggravate acne. Be aware, though, that this is still on a case-to-case basis. Some studies indicate that milk – especially the skimmed variety – could lead to acne. The same thing was said of seafood and refined sugar. These studies showed a “possible” link, not a sure and final one.

What may be more plausible is the concept that food allergies can cause acne. The truth is that food allergies are the leading cause of acne and that the more severe the case, the more likely that food allergies are the culprit. Since eating food that you’re allergic to can elicit a toxic reaction, your body may react by trying to expel it. This would then be visible through skin blemishes, like acne. This means that there’s no one type of food that can be considered a no-no for skin conscious people. As long as you’re allergic to a food, you’ll probably find an increase in acne outbreak.

One problem with dealing with a food allergy-based acne problem is that it’s very difficult to identify what food you’re actually allergic, too. It’s very likely that a person won’t be able to establish what his or her allergy really is without seeking medical help. Using the hit or miss strategy will be highly unsuccessful, since food allergies can have delayed reactions. It is suggested that allergen tests be undertaken to identify the real root of the problem.

The good news is, food can also cure acne. It may not be the real, direct cause of acne problems, but eating the right food can help one avoid getting severe acne. For a clear and healthy complexion, seek out food that’s high in beta-carotene, vitamin C and vitamin B6. Some foods that contain these vitamins are carrots, oranges and lemons. For an overall dose of vitamins that help improve the skin’s appearance, try to eat more fruits and vegetables – citrus, most especially – instead of focusing on pre-packaged food. For younger looking skin, check out food with Omega 3 and flaxseed oil. These are very good not only for your physical appearance, but also for your heart, blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Foods rich in zinc and other essential fatty acids can also help keep the face smooth and taut. With regards to acne, eating food with nutrients that strengthen the liver can help ease it. Seek out foods that contain protein, but make sure these are from plant sources. It’s not really confirmed or final, but a lot of experts suggest that one avoid eating processed foods to lessen the probability of acne.
